Beat the Peak
Reducing Energy Use During Peak Hours Can Help Us All Save
If we all work together to help reduce the energy demand during peak times, we can reduce your Cooperative’s power costs which in turn, helps keep electric rates lower for everyone!
Your Cooperative is excited to offer you a free, in-home peak alert device that plugs into a regular household electrical outlet and gives you an instant update of when a peak demand situation is near or occurring. You can then take additional voluntary steps to save even more energy usage by simply delaying the use of electricity during these periods, such as not using a dishwasher or clothes dryer.
Peak hours are the busiest times for North West REC since many people are using electricity at the same time. In addition, it costs more to generate electricity when demand soars during peak periods, which translates to higher costs that are eventually passed onto our members through the power cost adjustment (PCA) charge on your electric bill.

You can help minimize future rate increases by conserving energy during peak hours, which are generally on the hottest summer days between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and the coldest winter days between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Due to changes in our system, these beat the peak devices will stop working

please save energy wherever possible.

PEAK ALERT (YELLOW)
Alerts members of a potential
peak event within the hour.

NORMAL USAGE (GREEN)
North West REC system is currently experiencing normal
energy demand and no special energy saving measures are necessary.
